In loving memory of Rebecca Joy (Jacobson) Diercks.

Rebecca passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, August 21, 2026, at Niobrara County Hospital at the age of 74. She was surrounded by her family and the comforting sounds of her favorite network: Home and Garden Television.

Rebecca was born in Story City, Iowa, on February 1, 1952, to Norman Amos Jacobson and Marjorie JoAnn Swanson Jacobson.

From childhood and on, Rebecca was affectionately called Becky by family, friends, and loved ones. She attended primary school in Roland, Iowa, and graduated from Roland Story High School in 1970.

Becky began her higher education at Iowa State University in pursuit of her bachelor’s in education.

In 1974, Becky moved from Iowa to Lusk, Wyoming, with her first husband, Greg Kaltenheuser. Together they had one child, Brooks Kaltenheuser.

On February 21, 1988, she married Ross Diercks at the Chapel of Love in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ross and Becky had two children, Will and Dyann Diercks.

Becky went on to obtain her Bachelor of Education at Chadron State College and Master of Education at Chadron State College after the birth of her children, Will and Dyann.

Becky was a beloved and dedicated elementary school teacher at Lusk Elementary Middle School for 38 years. She taught hundreds of students and mentored many new teachers along the way, and midway through her career, Becky achieved her National Board Certification in Education.

When she wasn’t dedicating her summers to summer school, Becky found great joy in gardening and home renovation. Family and friends were in awe of the way Becky was able to transform an ordinary space into one of extraordinary beauty.

Becky was also actively involved in supporting her community, not only as a PEO member, but as a dedicated supporter of her children’s many extracurricular organizations, including Tiger Booster Club, 4H, and FBLA.

In her final years, Becky was diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive Parkinson’s disease that rendered her unable to speak. Nevertheless, she lived each day with a fearless determination and never gave up. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Becky is survived by her husband, Ross Diercks; children Brooke Kaltenheuser, Will Diercks, Dyann Diercks; and siblings Kay (Jacobson) Stanley, and Jon Jacobson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and JoAnn Jacobson; and siblings Lori Jacobson and Dan Jacobson.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Lusk Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
