Hildegard F. Hillen, age 102, went to see her precious Lord on Tue., Feb. 6, 2018. She passed away at Niobrara Community Hospital.

Hildegard was born to Karl and Helena (Lubenow) Engfer Aug. 10, 1915 in Pommern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

She loved to tell stories of her childhood and teen years growing up on the family farm in Germany. Hildegard was raised knowing hard work and long days. At one point, she was the only female working in a train yard. A part of her duties was to change the switches between the many rails.

When Russia invaded Germany, all of the family's livestock and most of their food was taken by the invading Army.

Hildegard became a citizen of the United States in 1961.

She is survived by her niece, Ingrid Freeman, of Lusk, and great-niece Marlena Dykema of South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, and four brothers who were all killed during WWII.

Memorial services will be held in the spring.
