IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lisa Janise
Luscher
October 24, 1967 – March 30, 2025
Lisa Janise Luscher, 57, of Chadron, Nebraska, passed away on March 30, 2025, at Regional West Hospital Hospital in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Lisa was the youngest of seven children, born on October 24, 1967, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Fred and Rita (Roberts) Luscher. Her first 2 years were spent living in Waterman, Illinois. In October of 1969, the family moved to a ranch in the Sandhills of Cherry County, Nebraska. With her older sister starting high school, the family moved to Gordon, Nebraska, in the summer of 1972. Lisa went to grade school and 2 years of high school in Gordon. With the passing of our father at the young age of 13 years old, Lisa struggled, and life was hard. She finished high school by getting her GED. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary Post 34 since 1975. Lisa worked various jobs, but the one she truly enjoyed was the nursing home. She loved working with the elderly, helping them, and listening to their life stories. They, in turn, loved her. This job took a toll on her back and knees and Lisa had to find different work. She found that her calling was with FEMA, and she spent over 12 years working with natural disasters from coast to coast. She was in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Rita. In Joplin, Missouri, after the tornado in May of 2011 and in New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy. She loved New Orleans so much that she stayed for over a year. She also loved the beaches of New Jersey, seeing new places and their history. The oceans and landscapes were dear to her. Lisa had a passion for lighthouses. After seeing a few, she started collecting lighthouse-themed knickknacks and household items. She also had a holiday Barbie doll collection, which was a yearly Christmas gift from Mom. Because of health issues, Lisa moved to assisted living in Chadron in 2022. She was a regular card player, and one of her other favorite activities was coloring. She used colored pencils, markers, and crayons. She made some beautiful pictures, which were entered in the Dawes County Fair. She received purple and blue ribbons on many of them. Survivors include sisters Rena DeWeese, Lana Luscher, and Cosette (Jim) Marshall, all of Gordon, April Smith of Chadron, uncles Glen (Patricia) Roberts of Sycamore, Illinois, and Rob (Betty) Roberts of Grand Haven, Michigan, and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by her parents, Fred A. and Rita Luscher, brother Fred B. Luscher, sister Lorraine Pourier, nephew Shawn Pourier, and niece, Miranda Marshall. Graveside services will be held April 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Gordon Cemetery.
