IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Ione
(Hitchcock) Brown
December 13, 1928 – October 4, 2020
On Sunday, October 4, 2020, Ruby Ione Brown passed away at the Douglas Care Center, her residence for the past three months. At 92, Ruby was the last one in her generation to enter the Presence of her Heavenly Father. We know by faith, she is experiencing a joyful family reunion and heavenly homecoming!
Ruby was born on December 13, 1928 in Lusk, Wyoming as the fourth daughter of Eva and Arthur Hitchcock. Ruby became a part of Lusk history upon graduating from high school when she assisted Dr. Reckling in caring for the ladies in the Yellow Hotel.
In 1948, Ruby gave up her dreams of becoming a nurse when at age 19 she married the love of her life, Harry Brown. In 1957, they adopted their only daughter, Deborah. For 67 wonderful years, Ruby happily worked alongside Harry in their farm and ranch supply business Ranchers Feed Service for 25 years.
Ruby, a hard worker and excellent helpmate, loved gardening and raising sheep and cattle with Harry on their small ranch during their "retirement" years. They learned to kick back, relax, and enjoy only working 40 hours a week instead of every day all day.
Ruby lived a full life dedicated to serving her family, friends, in church and in the community. With a caring heart for others, she always had a listening ear and time to share a cup of coffee. She was comfortable being "the life of the party" and loved good jokes and pranks.
The Browns were passionate 4-H supporters. Ruby became famous as "Ruby Red" the chicken lady, named by the auctioneer. At the yearly Niobrara 4-H livestock sale, she always enthusiastically bid until she won at least two or more chickens.
Ruby has two granddaughters, Alyssa and Anika Barnsdale, both adopted. Ruby's favorite thing was to give them wonderful memories together of shopping sprees, weekend sleepovers, holiday decorating, and cooking. As a devoted grandma, she attended their activities and offered hugs when they lost a pet.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Brown and all of her sisters and parents. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (husband Ken) Barnsdale, granddaughter Anika Barnsdale, granddaughter Alyssa and Dustin (two year old great-grandson) Barnsdale, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Blish Fellowship Hall at the Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, an account has been established at Lusk State Bank to benefit 4-H livestock members. Donations may be sent to Ruby Brown Memorial in care of 4-H Livestock Sale Committee. Cards may be sent to PO Box 1019, Lusk, WY 82225.
