Shirley Mae Wasson, age 94, of Lusk, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026.
Shirley was born October 5, 1931, in Neligh, Nebraska, to Hattie Leona Baker. Raised by her mother, she learned early the values of hard work, perseverance, and family. She attended school in Lusk, Wyoming, where she enjoyed typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. She played drums in the school band, was a cheerleader, and was crowned Junior Prom Queen. Shirley also loved reading, especially the Nancy Drew books.
She met the love of her life, Stan Wasson, in Lusk. The couple eloped in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and later honeymooned in New York City. Together, they built a life centered on family, home, and community.
Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved music, cooking, and baking, and cherished creating special family traditions, particularly at Christmas.
Shirley was deeply devoted to her community and believed strongly in serving others. Throughout her life, she generously gave her time and energy to many organizations. She served on the Helpmate Crisis Center Board of Directors and was also a dedicated Helpmate Advocate, offering support and compassion to those in need. Shirley was an active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, served on the Niobrara Community Hospital Board of Directors, and was involved with the Niobrara County Hospital Auxiliary and the Lusk D.O.E.S. Drove #64. She and Stan were lifetime members of the Niobrara Country Club. Shirley also contributed to many other local organizations over the years. Her commitment to service reflected her caring spirit and her belief in the importance of helping others. Shirley was also a faithful member of the Congregational Church, where her kindness, generosity, and sense of community were felt by many.
She is survived by her sons Brad, Mike, and Kirk Wasson.
Brad’s family includes his wife, Roxie; their son Cory (Deca, and sons Dane and Drew).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan; her infant son, Bruce; grandchildren Jeremy and Tara; and her siblings Marian, Kenneth, and Evelyn.
