Jackie 'Jack' Lamb Obituary

Jackie “Jack” Lee Lamb

December 18, 1935 - February 18, 2023

Jackie “Jack” Lee Lamb passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday, February 13, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lusk, Wyoming with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment will follow at the Dellview Cemetery in Manville, Wyoming.

Jack was born on a cold winter day on December 18, 1935, on the Alan Fosher Ranch south of Manville, Wyoming to N.V. “Shorty” and Margaret Lamb. He grew up farming and ranching with his family and was the oldest son of six children.

He attended Manville Elementary School and was the last class to graduate from Manville High School in 1954. He was salutatorian of his class and attended the University of Wyoming majoring in Engineering.  He also joined the National Guard after high school and served for several years. He soon realized that studying engineering wasn’t his chosen field. He took over the family ranch so his parents could run the construction business full-time.

Jack met Ellen Mae Shaffer at a country dance in Manville, Wyoming while they were in high school. They were later married on November 17, 1956, at St. Anthony’s Church in Hartville, Wyoming.

Jack loved farming and the smell of the dirt turning over while plowing the field. He grew to love ranching with his lovely wife, Ellen, beside him. Jack enjoyed spending time running the ranch with his wife and children. His favorite pastime was fly-fishing, and later tried to raise his own trout on the ranch.

Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellen, their children: daughter, Jaqueline Gregory (Doug) of Casper, Wyoming, son-in-law Stephen Slater of Montalba, Texas; daughter Rachele Hall of Manville, Wyoming and son Lee Lamb (Sally) of Manville, Wyoming. Their grandchildren: Ashley Clark (Tyler) of Windsor, Colorado, Drew Slater of Montalba, Texas, Sonora Hall (Mikey) of Yerington, Nevada. Their great-grandchildren: Kailynn, Eliiah, Ava, and Islla, and numerous nephews and nieces. Siblings: brother Gary (Lala) Lamb of Lusk, Wyoming, sister-in-law Judy Lamb of Torrington, Wyoming, sister Bobetta (George) Etchemendy of Lost Springs, Wyoming, sister Bonnie (Wayne) King of Spearfish, SD, brother Larry (Patty) Lamb of Torrington, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty and Margaret Lamb, brother Jerry Lamb and son, Jerry D., daughter Roxann Slater, and nieces Sonia Sieg and Donya Lamb.
