Jackson 'Jack' Butler Obituary

Jackson Oliver Butler, Vietnam Veteran, passed on to a better place on November 25th due to complications concerning Covid-19 and pneumonia. From the day he was born in Lusk on August 11th, 1946, Jack had a purpose to be the most unselfish, warmhearted, and finest man he could possibly be for everyone but himself. He was the epitome of the word ‘family-man,’ and he was everything that a husband, father, and granddad should be. There wasn’t a day that passed where he wasn’t leading by example and making the best of every situation thrown at him. There was not a soul that Jack came into contact with that he didn’t leave an impression on whether that be his immediate family, distant friends, or even the waiter at the diner he loved to eat at. There’s no doubt that he lived his life to support not only his wife, sons, and grandchildren, but even those who weren’t his own. He was an outstanding track athlete, basketball and football player, and teammate at Niobrara County High School, and he graduated in 1964. Jack continued to Huron College in South Dakota to play basketball, and he later went to serve our country in Vietnam. When he returned, he married the love of his life, Betty Darlene Hughes, and they raised their family of three children, Duster, Kip, and Trice in various places throughout Wyoming. For the past 20 years, he was able to come home to live his dream life of ranching on the Hughes’ Homestead in the Lusk area with his brother in law, Ron Hughes, and his wife. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Butler, and his father, Oliver Butler. He is survived by: his wife, Betty Butler, his sons, Duster (Jennifer), Kip (Kristen), Trice (Holly), his brother, Randall Butler, his sisters, JoyLynn Holden and Retha Reinke, and his grandchildren, Mikayla, Madison, Cade, Jayden, Kolby, Aubrey, and Teagan.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Betty Butler. The proceeds will be put into a fund to further his grandchildren’s education.
