Stanley 'Stan' Aamodt Obituary

Stanley Howard Aamodt was born Dec. 28, 1931 to Christ and Olga (Rude) Aamodt on a farm at Overly, N. Dakota, one of six children, and was the last survivor of them.  He went through school and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church there.

The family moved to Kellogg, Idaho in 1948 to work in the silver and other metal mines, and the smelter called Bunker Hill.

Stan was drafted into the Army in1954 and served 2 years.  When he came home from the service there was no hiring anywhere.  He had a very good buddy, so he went to see Billy – Billy’s aunt was visiting from Wyoming.  She said if you know anything about ranching, I would take you to Wyoming and put you to work.  He did, and she brought him out to Joe Leimser to work.  Eleanor was impressed by how he worked and listened to Joe.  They started going together and were married March 10, 1956 in Lusk.  They have one daughter, Connie Ann of Gillette, Wyoming.

Stan was looking for work about 1960.  Eleanor’s dad told Buck Culver he didn’t know about welding, but he was a hard worker and willing to learn – so he started his life-long work of welding making many auto-gates, and parts for drilling rigs that have gone all over the world.  His last job was with Monfort Feed Lots (now Swift) in Greeley, Colorado.  He retired from there in 1998 and he and Eleanor moved to Lusk where he took up woodworking.  Many of his woodworking creations are spread across the United States.  He recently donated a windmill to the Senior Center for a fund-raiser.  Stan loved going to the Senior Center, being with the people, visiting, and playing games.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lusk, the Niobrara Senior Center, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
